Olivia Julianna, a young girl who rose to stardom on the social media app TikTok, is taking the political scene by storm. Dubbed, "The AOC of Gen Z," Olivia is outspoken and unafraid of standing up for what she believes in. She became politically active in 2020 by advocating against the reelection of Trump from a notable southern red state, Texas. She was also heavily involved with promoting notable democratic candidate Beto O'Rourke for president in 2020. Olivia's main occupations are Student and Abortion Activist. 

 

In 2022 she was considered by Bloomberg to be one of the top 50 most influential people of the year for global business. Her ranking in the political category highlights her efforts to mobilize younger voters to become politically active in crazy ways. Olivia's most notable event was raising over $2,000,000 through the Gen Z for Change nonprofit in order to donate to pro-choice organizations in states with abortion restrictions. This act was actually initiated on Twitter by Matt Gaetz, who attacked people for their looks and desirability and used Olivia's photo (to insinuate that she would never get an abortion because no one would want to sleep with her). As inappropriate as that was, Olivia took the personal attack and made it into an opportunity to fundraise to help women across America access the abortions they needed. 

To this day, Olivia continues to be active on TikTok and Twitter. She is supportive of mostly progressive candidates and is unafraid to clap back at overzealous extremists. Unfortunately, as mentioned before, her weight has become a target for Twitter-users and politicians alike. 

 

Gen Z for Change is an organization that you can get involved with too! Olivia serves as the Director of Politics and Governmental Affairs at Gen Z for Change. Their website, linked here, has a host of advice for becoming politically knowledgeable, and they make it clear what their mission is and where donations will be going. Since the initial charity was named TikTok for Biden, it is clear that they are all left-leaning; but, their evolution to Gen Z for change has led them to simply promote progress within the US.

 This week Republican Congress members have been aiming to increase protections for ProLife institutions and individuals. House Republicans introduced resolution 3 which requires the presidential administration to take threats against anti-abortion clinics and individuals seriously. Resolution 3 maintains that the vandals, thieves, and combatants should be punished accordingly. Another bill entering the House Floor is H.R. 26, by which babies born after botched abortions would have the same legal rights as any other newborn. Bill 26 was proposed by two women, Rep. Wagner and Rep. Is Change No Longer Welcomed?

In a shocking declaration last week, North Carolina Representative Tricia Cotham formalized her party switch to the GOP. Cotham has run as a Democrat, and with Democrats, since her political debut in 2007. Prior to entering Politics, she served for a few years as a teacher and principal. Cotham spent 10 years as the representative of the North Carolina Assembly for District 100, 2007-2017. Mecklenburg, the area that Cotham represents, has historically been represented by Democrats for many years. 14 out of the other 16 representatives for the State House and State Senate that represent portions of Mecklenburg are Democrats as well.  The North Carolina Assembly GOP already has a huge majority, contrary to the Democratic Governor and the 50/50 split of US House members. The Tennessee 3 -But Only 2 Expelled?

                         The Tennessee General Assembly made national headlines recently as they moved to expel 3 Democratic state representatives from the Tennessee State House. During an anti-gun protest on the House Floor led by young Tennessee schoolchildren, Gloria Johnson, Justin Jones, and Justin Pearson held strong and stood by them to represent the desire for stricter gun laws. This came just days after the mass shooting at a private Christian School in Tennessee, but the representatives' show of solidarity was not taken well by the Republican majority. After what they called "an attack on freedom and a violation of House decorum," there was a motion to expel all three members.
